Inokashira Park Zoo

A 1942 zoo split across two areas of Inokashira Park: the main animal yard near the lake's southwest corner, and the Aquatic Life Park (a small aquarium of native Japanese pondfish) directly on the lake's east shore. The animal yard focuses on small Japanese fauna: tanuki (raccoon dogs), Japanese serows, mountain cats, and a beloved population of capybara. The zoo's elephant Hanako, who lived here for 69 years until 2016, was the symbol of the park and is commemorated by a memorial near the entrance.
