Roadside station Inami

Inami in Toyama's Nanto city is Japan's largest wood-carving town, and the roadside station here serves as both a rest stop and a gateway to the craft. The building stocks locally made goods and serves regional Toyama dishes, including white shrimp dishes and soba. Outside, the surrounding streets are where Inami's real character comes through: hundreds of wooden transom panels, Buddhist altar fittings, and decorative reliefs fill shop windows along the main approach to Zuisenji Temple. Carvers still work in open studios visible from the street. The town is compact and most of its highlights are walkable from the roadside station.
