Ikarugadera

Ikarugadera in Taishi, Osaka Prefecture is believed to have been founded by Prince Shotoku in the 6th century and is considered one of the oldest temples in western Japan connected to the spread of Buddhism during that era. The complex includes designated Important Cultural Properties among its statues and wooden structures, and the grounds have a quiet, aged quality distinct from more polished temple tourist sites. The surrounding village of Taishi retains several historic sites connected to Prince Shotoku, making a half-day walk through the area worthwhile. Access is easiest by car or from Taishi-Daikichi Station on the Kintetsu Nagano Line.
