Historic hot spring town where novelist Matsuo Basho stayed, featuring traditional wooden bathhouses and apple orchards.
One of the three great hot springs of the ancient Oshu region, with over 1,000 years of history. The compact town features ryokan, public baths, and a morning market, just a short train ride from Fukushima Station.
Local tips
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
