Igenoyama Tumulus

Fifth-century keyhole-shaped burial mound in Kyoto Prefecture, at 128 meters the largest of its kind in the Otokuni region. In 1980, workers preparing to expand a cemetery at the site discovered a wooden crate containing roughly 700 iron weapons including swords, spears, and arrowheads, one of the only such discoveries in Kyoto Prefecture. The mound was restored to its presumed original shape after becoming a nationally designated Historic Site in 1981, and replica haniwa clay figures now line the tiers and the adjacent ritual space. Visitors can walk the stepped sides to the top for a view over the park and surrounding city.
