いちょう並木

Est. 20Tokyo, Kanto

Overview

Ginkgo tree-lined walkway between Aoyama business district and Meiji Jingu, Tokyo's most scenic autumn path.

300-meter corridor of ginkgo trees in the Meiji Jingu Gaien that turns a luminous gold each November. Four rows of precisely spaced trees, planted in the 1920s, form a cathedral-like canopy that draws photographers and families when the leaves peak, typically mid to late November. Street vendors line the route selling roasted chestnuts and seasonal snacks. The avenue runs from the Aoyama business district to the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery. The surrounding Jingu Gaien sports complex includes a baseball stadium and tennis courts, so there is plenty to explore beyond the brief but spectacular autumn season.
