Ichiidani Nanano Shrine

This small Shinto shrine in Kyoto stands on the site of a former residential complex for imperial shrine maidens who served at Kamo Shrine from the Heian period until 1212. The sanctuary was later moved here by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who had his daimyo lords build the stone foundation. Their family crests are still visible on the stones. The shrine carries a reputation for mending relationships after infidelity, tracing back to a story about Empress Uda, who reportedly stacked small stones in prayer here to restore her husband Emperor Uda's devotion. The practice of stacking stones continues today.
