星峯稲荷社
Hoshi-Mine Inari Shrine on the slopes of Mount Hiei was established to enshrine Dakiniten, a deity who is said to have appeared here as a white fox around the time Enryakuji Temple was founded. Dakiniten began as a Hindu female demon, later absorbed into Japanese Buddhism and eventually merged with the Shinto Inari deity of the rice harvest when the two traditions intermingled. She is particularly associated with the power to grant wishes, and enjoyed strong devotion among the court nobility. Prayers here center on personal achievement, business success, and family prosperity. Goshuin stamps for this shrine are collected at the Monju-ro gate.
