Overview

350-hectare park famous for 5.3 million blue nemophila flowers in spring and red kochia in autumn.

Hitachi Seaside Park covers 350 hectares along the Ibaraki coast and transforms twice a year into some of Japan's most dramatic flower scenery. From mid-April to early May, roughly 5.3 million nemophila flowers turn Miharashi Hill a continuous sky-blue that merges visually with the ocean and horizon. In late September and October, 33,000 kochia bushes on the same hill shift from green to deep red. Outside peak bloom seasons, the park runs an amusement area, 11 kilometers of cycling paths, a BMX track, and children's play spaces. During nemophila season, the park sells blue soft-serve ice cream at concession stands throughout the grounds.
