Hiroshima Sunday Asaichi
market
ひろしま朝市
Hiroshima is famous for its okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) made and eaten off the griddle, but a wide variety of fresh food is also available in the city.
Two recurring farmers markets in Hiroshima are worth working into a morning. The Hiroshima Asaichi runs every Sunday from 8:15 to 10 a.m. in the Green Zone on Peace Boulevard, where local farmers sell seasonal produce alongside stalls offering homemade sushi, sweets, baked goods, and pickles. At Hiroshima Port, the Minato Marche happens the first and third Sunday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with cooked oysters, fresh seafood, mushrooms, tempura, and occasional live music and dance. Summer brings food trucks selling kakigori, shaved ice in various flavors. Both markets rotate their offerings by season, so everything out is genuinely fresh.
