Overview
For thrill-seekers who like to stand atop sheer cliffs and gaze far below, visit Mt. Nokogiri's "peek into hell."
Perched on the edge of Mt. Nokogiri's sheer cliff face, this vertigo-inducing lookout lets you peer straight down into the old quarry far below, hence the dramatic name. The mountain also houses Nihonji Temple, home to a 31-meter stone Buddha carved into the rock face in 1783 and over 1,500 arhat statues scattered along the hillside trails. You can reach the top via a scenic ropeway from the coast or hike up from the temple entrance. The panoramic views stretch across Tokyo Bay to the Miura Peninsula on clear days.
