Hot spring resort on Lake Togo shores in Tottori, named after Hawaii, with outdoor baths and healing alkaline waters.
Hawai Onsen on the shores of Lake Togo in Tottori takes its name from a phonetic similarity to Hawaii that locals embraced as a playful identity. The onsen themselves are genuinely excellent, with alkaline waters said to leave skin noticeably smooth. Several ryokan and public baths have outdoor tubs overlooking the lake, and some are built on piers extending over the water. Sunsets here reflect across the calm lake surface in orange and pink. The area pairs naturally with nearby Mt. Daisen, the Adachi Museum of Art, and Tottori's famous sand dunes and winter snow crab restaurants for a fuller day or overnight itinerary.
