Haruna Shrine
shrine
榛名神社
Mountain shrine built into a cliff face at 860m elevation, approached through volcanic rock columns.
Nestled 860 meters up Mount Haruna among towering rock formations and ancient cedar forest, Haruna Shrine is considered Gunma's most powerful spiritual site. The approach trail passes volcanic rock columns, moss-covered stone lanterns, and a waterfall before reaching the main hall, built directly against a massive cliff face. Despite its dramatic setting, the shrine sees a fraction of the visitors that Nikko or Kamakura attract.
