Harmonica Yokocho
market
ハーモニカ横丁
A post-war alley maze of tiny bars, eateries, and vintage shops buzzing with Showa-era atmosphere.
Named for its harmonica-reed-like layout of narrow parallel lanes, this former black market near Kichijoji Station has evolved into a beloved warren of roughly 100 micro-establishments. Each storefront seats just a handful of patrons, creating an intimate dining culture where regulars and newcomers share elbow space over yakitori, standing bars, and handmade sweets.
Go around 5pm on weekdays to grab a stool before the after-work crowd arrives. The yakitori stalls in the central lane are the best.
