Hanagasa Shokudo
restaurant
花笠食堂
Deeply local diner in the arcade serving massive portions of teishoku meals.
Beloved no-frills diner tucked inside the Makishi Public Market arcade in Naha, serving enormous portions of home-style Okinawan teishoku set meals at prices that feel frozen in time. The daily changing menu features classics like goya champuru (bitter melon stir-fry), soki soba (spare rib noodle soup), fu champuru, and rafute braised pork belly, each plate accompanied by rice, miso soup, and pickles. The retro interior, plastic-wrapped sample dishes in the window, and handwritten menu add to the deeply local atmosphere. Arrive before the noon rush to snag a seat at the counter or one of the shared tables, and do not be surprised if you leave feeling pleasantly overwhelmed by the generosity of the servings.
