浜比嘉島シルミチュー
Sacred cave on Hamahiga Island where Ryukyu creation gods are said to have lived. 108 steps up.
On Hamahiga Island, reachable by bridge from Uruma, a torii gate marks the start of 108 stone steps climbing to Shirumichu, a sacred limestone cave believed to be where the Ryukyu creation gods Amamichu and Shirumichu lived and bore their children. The island holds over 30 utaki (sacred groves) and remains an active site of Okinawan spiritual practice. Entry inside the cave is forbidden, but the atmosphere at the threshold is arresting.
