Hakone Venetian Glass Museum
箱根ガラスの森美術館
Overview
An open-air museum of Venetian glass art set in European-style gardens with a crystal glass tree and live accordion music.
This whimsical museum displays over 100 works of Venetian glass dating from the 15th to 20th centuries in buildings designed to evoke a small Italian palazzo. The outdoor gardens feature a 16-meter-tall tree made of 160,000 Swarovski crystals that sparkles in sunlight, alongside glass flowers and sculptures. An on-site café hosts live Italian accordion performances, creating an unexpectedly Mediterranean atmosphere in Hakone's mountains.
Local tips
The crystal tree is at its most dramatic on sunny winter mornings when low-angle light makes each crystal fragment cast rainbow refractions across the garden.
