Hakone Open Air Museum

Japan's first outdoor sculpture museum opened in Hakone in 1969, spreading around 120 works across 70,000 square meters of landscaped grounds with mountain views. Artists including Rodin, Moore, and Miro are represented, alongside prominent Japanese sculptors. The centerpiece is a Symphonic Sculpture by Gabriel Loire, an 18-meter stained glass tower with a spiral staircase inside. A dedicated hall houses 188 Picasso works spanning paintings, ceramics, and tapestries. After walking the grounds, visitors can soak their feet in the outdoor hot spring foot bath. The 'Woods of Net' installation, a colorful crocheted structure, is especially popular with children.
