Hakodate Meijikan Glass Workshop
函館明治館ガラス工房
Overview
A hands-on glass-blowing and music box workshop inside the restored 1911 Hakodate Post Office, where you craft your own Hokkaido-inspired keepsake.
Housed in the handsome red-brick former Hakodate Post Office built in 1911, the experience studio here offers glass craft and music box making workshops. Unlike tourist-trap souvenir factories, the instructors are working artisans who guide you through creating genuinely beautiful pieces. The glass workshop lets you blow your own cup or ornament using techniques specific to Hokkaido's glass tradition.
Local tips
Book the glass-blowing session (not sandblasting) and ask to use the blue Tsugaru-inspired glass. The resulting piece looks like frozen Hakodate harbor water.
