Hagoromo Shiraito Falls

Hagoromo Shiraito Falls drops off a rock wall in vertical threads of white water, its name combining shiraito, meaning white silk thread, with the hagoromo celestial robe of Japanese mythology. The falls lie near the trailhead to Mt. Shichimen, where a statue of Lady Oman, consort of Tokugawa Ieyasu, stands nearby. Legend holds she meditated beneath the falls for three days to prove her purity before climbing the mountain to pray for Ieyasu's spirit after his death in 1616. Her pilgrimage lifted a longstanding ban on women ascending Mt. Shichimen. Visitors can pay a fee to wade in the diverted pool or attempt meditation under the cold falls.
