Overview
Bus terminal, restaurant, and trailhead complex at the top of the Hachimantai Aspite Line, the launch point for every summit-area boardwalk loop.
The Summit Rest House sits at 1,540 meters at the highest paved point on the Aspite Line, where the toll road tops out before descending toward the Akita side. Inside: a casual restaurant serving Iwate-beef curry and Hachimantai cabbage soba, a souvenir shop, public restrooms (the only ones at the summit), and the bus terminal for the seasonal Iwate Hokkaido Bus from Morioka. The boardwalk loops to Mt. Hachimantai and the Megane-numa series start directly across the parking lot. Open mid-April through early November; closed by snow the rest of the year.
