Gotemba 5th Station (Mt. Fuji)

富士山御殿場口新五合目
Green trail to Mt. Fuji, newest and least crowded route, gentle volcanic gravel slope to eighth station.
The Gotemba Trail is the least crowded of Mt. Fuji's four official climbing routes, starting at the lowest 5th station (1,440m) and ascending through loose volcanic gravel. The gentle gradient makes for a long but steady climb, and the wide scree fields on the descent are famous for "sand-running", bounding downhill in giant strides through soft ash. The climbing season runs from early July to mid-September. Even if you're not summiting, the 5th station area offers views and a taste of Fuji's volcanic landscape. Come prepared with proper gear, conditions change rapidly above the treeline.
