Goshikidai Plateau
五色台の紅葉
Overview
Plateau overlooking the Seto Inland Sea with colorful autumn trees and sweeping island views.
Goshikidai is a plateau consisting of five peaks, each named after a traditional color: Red, White, Blue, Yellow, and Black. In autumn, the plateau becomes a popular driving route as the forests of maple and zelkova turn vibrant colors. The 'Skyline' road offers multiple viewpoints where you can see the autumn leaves in the foreground and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea in the background. The area is also home to the 81st and 82nd temples of the Shikoku Pilgrimage (Shiamine-ji and Negoro-ji). Negoro-ji is particularly famous for its 'Koyo,' with hundreds of maples surrounding the temple buildings. The combination of spiritual atmosphere, coastal views, and autumn colors makes this a favorite weekend getaway for locals.
