Goryoya Mausoleum

This mausoleum at Shokoji Temple was built in 1810 to honor two consecutive heads of the Maeda family, the daimyo lords who ruled the Kaga domain for over two centuries. The first, Harunaga, entered the temple as a child and was ordained abbot at 11 before eventually returning to secular life as daimyo. He financed the temple's Main Hall in 1795. His adopted son Narinaga continued that support after inheriting the domain. The two are enshrined together here in a structure designated an Important Cultural Property, set within the quiet grounds of one of the region's significant Zen temples.
