Ginzan Energy Museum (Tankai-ato)
Overview
Walk-through silver mine tunnel above Ginzan Onsen, with a small free museum on Edo-period ore extraction at the entrance.
The Nobesawa silver mine, in operation 1456-1689, is what gave Ginzan its name. After the mine closed the village survived as an onsen town. A 30-minute uphill walk from the Shirogane Park trailhead leads to the open mine tunnel, which visitors can enter for about 200 meters; lights are kept on year-round. The small museum at the entrance shows extraction techniques and the original wooden support beams. Free admission.
Local tips
Combine with Shirogane Falls; the trail loops past both in 90 minutes round-trip from the village.
