1,300-year-old hot spring town with traditional public baths near Fukuoka.

One of the oldest hot springs in Kyushu with 1,300 years of history, mentioned in the Manyoshu poetry anthology. The small town retains two public bath houses, Hakusen-no-Yu and Gozen-yu, offering simple, authentic hot spring bathing without the resort trappings.

Local tips

Hakusen-no-Yu (200 yen) is the more atmospheric of the two public baths. Just 15 minutes by train from Hakata, it's an easy half-day escape from the city.
