ふらのワイン工場
Municipal winery with free tastings of varieties grown from the only commercial vineyard in this part of Hokkaido.
Furano Winery began in 1972 to give local farmers a use for the seibel grape, at the time the only variety that could survive the central Hokkaido winters. The factory now produces 11 wines and runs a free tasting bar with all of them open. The viewing window into the production hall shows the bottling line. The hill above the building has a vineyard view back to the Tokachi mountains.
The summer-only ice wine made from frozen Kerner grapes is the one to try.
