A 200-year-old sake brewery's tasting bar where you can pair premium Hida sake with grilled Hida beef skewers.
Funasaka has been brewing sake since the Edo period, and their attached tasting bar 'Aji no Yohei' offers one of Takayama's best food-and-drink pairings. The signature experience is sipping their junmai daiginjo alongside Hida beef kushiyaki (grilled skewers) in a renovated storehouse setting. They also offer sake-flavored soft serve and exclusive brewery-only bottles. The building itself is a registered cultural property with its original timber beams and earthen walls intact.
Ask for their 'kuragakoi' aged sake. It's stored in the brewery's traditional kura and has a deep, almost sherry-like quality you won't find elsewhere.
