One of the most conveniently located castles in Japan, Fukuyama Castle stands directly beside the Shinkansen station, you can literally see the keep from the platform. The original 1622 fortress was destroyed during WWII and reconstructed in 1966, now housing a museum with samurai armor, swords, and artifacts tracing the Bingo region's feudal history. Climb to the top floor for panoramic views over the city. The surrounding park is beautiful during cherry blossom season in early April.
