Fukushuen Garden

Fukushuen was built in 1992 to mark the tenth anniversary of Naha's sister-city relationship with Fuzhou, China, and the design reflects centuries of exchange between the Ryukyu Kingdom and the mainland. Fuzhou artisans constructed the garden's pavilions, arched bridges, waterfall, and koi pond using traditional techniques including intricate wooden lattice work and upturned eaves across 8,500 square meters. A reconstructed royal villa from the Ryukyu royal family stands within the grounds. The garden is particularly appealing during azalea season in spring. It sits just a short walk from Kokusai Street, making it an easy and quiet contrast to the busier shopping district nearby.
