One of Japan's three famous waterfalls cascades 120 meters in four tiers, spectacular during autumn and winter.
Fukuroda Falls in Ibaraki is one of Japan's three famous waterfalls, dropping 120 meters in four distinct tiers over a wide rock face in the Daigo mountains. A tunnel bored into the cliff leads to an interior observation platform where you can look straight across at the middle section of the falls. An elevator at one end provides easier access to the upper viewing areas. The character of the falls changes dramatically with the seasons: thin ice formations cling to the rock in winter, spring snowmelt fills the falls to maximum volume, summer heat makes the spray refreshing, and autumn turns the surrounding trees red and orange.
