Fukuoka Sumo
大相撲十一月場所
3.9Est. 210Fukuoka, Kyushu
As the final tournament, the stakes are highest in Fukuoka. Wrestlers fighting to avoid demotion bring a visible desperation to the ring, and the knowledgeable Kyushu crowd is vocal. Arrive for the top division bouts in the late afternoon. After the last match, walk to the yatai stalls on Nakasu Island.
Local tips
Fukuoka is the easiest tournament to attend without advance planning. The November timing pairs well with autumn foliage at Dazaifu Tenmangu (30 minutes by train). After the final bout, walk to Nakasu Island for yatai stalls. Most wrestlers stay at temples in the Hakata area during the tournament. Some temples post schedules for morning practice sessions open to the public.
