Overview
Morioka's cult-favorite bakery where locals line up for oversized koppe-pan rolls filled with dozens of customizable toppings.
Since 1948, Fukuda Pan has been Morioka's most beloved bakery, famous for its enormous soft koppe-pan (bread rolls) split and filled with your choice from over 50 sweet and savory fillings. The anko-butter combination is iconic, but adventurous eaters try yakisoba, napolitan, or seasonal fruit cream. Every Morioka resident has a go-to order, and the queues at lunchtime are part of the experience.
Local tips
The classic order is anko-butter (sweet red bean paste with butter) but ask for the seasonal special. In autumn it is chestnut cream, in summer it is zunda (edamame paste).
