Fukiage Rotemburo
Overview
Free outdoor mixed-bath in the forest at the Tokachidake foothills. Bring your own bathing suit; no facilities on site.
A natural rock pool fed by a 60-degree spring in the forest above Fukiage Onsen Village, made famous by the 1980s Japanese drama Kita no Kuni Kara. The two stacked pools (the lower cooler than the upper) sit in a small clearing 10 meters off the main road. There are no walls, no changing rooms, no attendants, and no fee. Visitors typically bring swimwear (mixed-gender bathing) and a towel. Open year-round, including snow-bath in winter.
Local tips
Park at Hakuginso ryokan up the road and walk down — the immediate parking lot fills by 8 AM in summer.
