補陀洛山寺
Historic temple famous for the extreme devotion of monks who set sail in sealed boats.
A historic temple associated with the tragic and profound Fudaraku Tokai religious practice. Devoted monks would set sail in sealed wooden boats from this shore, seeking the pure land of Kannon. The temple grounds feature a reconstructed, sealed boat that illustrates this extreme devotion.
The temple is located directly next to Kumano Kodo's Nachi station, making it a perfect quick stop before heading up the mountain.
