Four Waterfalls of Yokotani Gorge
横谷峡四つの滝
Overview
A walking trail in Hida-Kanayama passes the four waterfalls of Yokotani Gorge, where the natural features of Gero are intertwined with cultural lore.
A four-hour round-trip trail in Hida-Kanayama passes four waterfalls along the Yokotani River. Shirataki Falls (17 m) comes first, less than 200 meters from the trailhead, with a viewing pavilion. Futamitaki Falls (13 m) follows, named for its two-tier drop. Momijitaki Falls (9 m) is set among maple trees that blaze in autumn. The final waterfall, Keimeidaki (33 m), is the largest, and carries a Heian-period legend: a princess followed her pet chicken here only to watch it transform into a deity and vanish into the falls. The trail connects to longer paths along the Maze River and through the Zenshindani Forest.
