Former Shuseikan Machinery Factory
museum
旧集成館機械工場
Japan's oldest Western-style stone factory, now a museum of early industrialization.
Japan's oldest surviving Western-style stone factory building, built by the Shimadzu clan in 1865. Originally used for metalworking and shipbuilding, it now serves as a fascinating museum outlining Kagoshima's pivotal role in the Meiji Restoration. The thick stone walls echo with early industrial ambition.
The entry ticket for this museum is included in the admission to the adjacent Sengan-en garden, so plan to do both together.
