外国人墓地
Harbor-view cemetery from 1854 reflecting Hakodate's international port history.
A hillside cemetery overlooking the harbor where foreign residents and sailors have been buried since 1854, when Hakodate became one of Japan's first open ports. The diverse headstones from Russian, Chinese, American, and European communities tell the story of the city's cosmopolitan past.
The cemetery entrance is at the top of Daisan-zaka slope. The adjacent rose garden has benches with one of the best harbor views in the city.
