A sprawling, deeply spiritual monastery complex atop Mount Hiei.
Located high on Mount Hiei, this vast temple complex is the birthplace of the Tendai sect of Buddhism. The mountain air is crisp and the forested trails connecting the halls are atmospheric. It is a profound place of discipline and history overlooking Lake Biwa.
