Eboshiyama Park

烏帽子山公園
Park retreat from Yamagata city with numerous splendid cherry blossoms creating peak spring sightseeing.
Eboshiyama Park in Nanyo, Yamagata Prefecture, holds about 1,000 cherry trees across 25 varieties, which means the bloom season extends for nearly a full month from mid-April rather than the single-week window at single-variety sites. The park is particularly known for its old weeping cherry trees, some estimated at over 100 years, their branches cascading down the slopes. Stone lanterns and small shrines dot the walking trails that loop through the groves, with viewpoints overlooking the Nanyo basin and the distant Asahi mountains. Several onsen facilities operate nearby in the same hillside area, and the combination of spring blossoms and hot spring soaking draws visitors from across Tohoku each April.
