Bronze statue of Fudō Myō-ō Iwate Prefecture Tangible Cultural Property This bronze statue of Fudō Myō-ō dates to the Kamakura period (1185–1333). Fudō Myō-ō is the most important of Buddhism’s Five Wisdom Kings, who protect Buddhist teachings and vanquish evil. The figure may have held a sword in its right hand symbolizing its power to cut down evil, which is typical of representations of Fudō Myō-ō, as is its fierce expression.
Remove shoes before entering any hall. Look for a shoe rack at the entrance. Carry a plastic bag for your shoes if none is provided.
