Overview

The sacred core complex of Koyasan, dominated by a massive, bright vermilion pagoda.

The central spiritual complex of Koyasan, filled with majestic halls and pagodas. The centerpiece is the Konpon Daito, an enormous bright vermilion pagoda that houses a stunning three-dimensional mandala. The pine trees surrounding the complex are considered deeply sacred.

Local tips

Look for the Sanko no Matsu (three-needle pine tree). Finding a three-pronged pine needle here is said to bring good luck.
