Dakigaeri Gorge
nature
抱返り渓谷
Turquoise river gorge where hikers once embraced to pass on the narrow cliffside trail.
Named because the old logging trail was so narrow that hikers had to embrace each other to pass, this gorge follows a turquoise-blue river through tunnels carved in rock and across suspended bridges. The 30-minute trail to Mikaeri Falls hugs the cliff edge above water so clear you can count stones on the riverbed. Autumn paints the canyon walls in fiery contrast against the electric-blue stream.
