Overview
Daitoku-ji sub-temple with one of Japan's finest dry landscape gardens for contemplation.
A sub-temple of Daitoku-ji renowned for its masterpiece karesansui dry landscape garden, considered one of the finest examples of Zen garden design in Japan. The compact garden uses rocks, gravel, and carefully placed plants to represent a river journey from mountain source to open sea, a metaphor for the passage of life. Sitting on the veranda in quiet contemplation is a meditative experience in itself.
