Overview
Several historic sites and a botanical garden are located at Dainenjiyama Park.
A hillside park where Sendai's feudal history and seasonal nature share the same ground. The Somon Gate, built in the 1720s, is the only original structure from Dainenji Temple, a place once commissioned by Date Tsunamura and at the center of a famous succession dispute that inspired kabuki plays. Walking paths pass the family graves of the Date lords before opening to views of nearby mountains and the Pacific coast. In spring, cherry trees in front of the gate bloom in April, while the botanical garden cycles through irises and balloon flowers into autumn.
