Daigahara-Juku Post Town

Daigahara-Juku is a preserved post town along the Koshu Kaido highway in Hokuto, Yamanashi, where travelers rested during the Edo period on the route between Edo, Koshu, and Shinshu. The nearby Minami Alps provide some of Yamanashi's purest water, drawing drink makers and breweries to the area. Shichiken Sake Brewery, founded in 1750, still produces award-winning sake here and houses a museum in the lodgings where the Meiji Emperor stayed in 1880. Kinseiken confectionery, founded in 1902, is the only place where the seasonal mizu shingen mochi, known abroad as the Raindrop Cake, is available.
