Choshi Port
viewpoint
銚子港
Working fishing port town at Chiba's eastern tip, famous for early morning tuna auctions and Pacific sunrise views.
The Fisherman's Wharf Choshi building stands at the edge of one of Japan's largest fishing ports, where trawlers come and go through the day. The twin glass towers hold a market and exhibition area on the lower floors and a 360-degree observation level above, giving views over the port, the ocean, and the Kanto plain stretching inland. The port sends out more fresh fish than almost anywhere else in the country, and the market below the tower is the place to buy or eat it. Sunset here is particularly good, with the light breaking across the water and the fishing boats heading out for the evening. Combine with a visit to Inubosaki Lighthouse nearby.
