Choshi Electric Railway
landmark
銚子電気鉄道
Charming local railway connecting Choshi's fishing port to Inubo Cape, famous for retro trains and wet senbei.
Tiny, endearingly scrappy local line running just 6.4km between Choshi Station and Tokawa, passing through fishing neighborhoods and rice paddies along the way. The railway has famously survived financial hardship by selling "nure senbei" (moist rice crackers) and other snacks, which have become as much of an attraction as the trains themselves. The retro carriages, some decorated with nostalgic themes, trundle along at a leisurely pace that suits the unhurried coastal scenery. It connects to Cape Inubo, so you can ride to the end of the line and walk to the lighthouse, making the journey itself part of the experience.
