Chosei-no-yu
onsen
長生の湯
Wooded outdoor onsen with three types of mineral-rich pools and a retro feel.
Hamano-yu (also known as Chosei-no-yu) is a highly-regarded onsen facility in Shirahama that manages to maintain a rustic, secluded feel despite its proximity to the main beach area. The bathhouse uses building materials salvaged from old Japanese houses and warehouses, giving it a weathered, traditional aesthetic. It draws from three different hot spring sources, allowing for a variety of water temperatures and mineral compositions. The facility features an indoor bath, an outdoor stone bath, and a unique 'bin-furo' (large earthenware jar bath) tucked into a forested corner. It is a favorite for those who find the more famous Saki-no-yu too exposed or crowded. It is generally reported to be tattoo-tolerant, especially for foreign tourists.
