Chatsubomigoke Moss Park
nature
チャツボミゴケ公園
Emerald moss blanketing acidic hot-spring streams, found nowhere else on Japan's mainland.
Acidic hot-spring water feeds streams blanketed in rare chatsubomigoke moss, creating an emerald-green landscape found nowhere else in mainland Japan outside Hokkaido. Boardwalk trails loop through the park in about an hour, crossing over mineral-tinted streams and steaming vents. The moss glows brightest from June through October, and the silence, broken only by flowing water, makes the park feel genuinely otherworldly.
